A Day At the Fair | Dubuque Wedding Photographer

Michele and Dan are an adorable couple.  Michele is not only a client but a friend, a fellow photographer, and she’s been a second shooter for me at a wedding.  I was very excited when she told me she and Dan wanted to do their engagement photos at the Iowa State Fair.

Now, the thing about the Iowa State Fair is that it is almost always unbearably hot.  It is August in Iowa after all.  Luckily the weather wasn’t too bad when we set out for the session.  If we had done it the week before I probably would have died.  Literally.  It was still hot but the humidity wasn’t as bad as days past.

This session is a bit different than my normal style.  For portrait sessions, things tend to be a little more posed.  (Not super posed though!)  But this session, while we did do some posing was almost photo journalistic in nature.  It was challenging but fun.  This was also the longest session I’ve ever done.  I think we were at the fair for around 6 hours.  But, there was lots to see and lots to do.

This was a challenge for me.  While I’m not afraid of heights, I’m also not that fond of them.  Riding the sky lift isn’t my favorite thing to do.  But I did it!!!

This next one if one of my favorites!

A little bit sexy.  A little bit silly.

Once the sun started to go down a bit, Michele and Dan went off to change clothes.  Then we headed out to the midway for some games and rides.

Ring shot!
